Notes

The last heir of the Vaillancourt family, that ruled for centuries a territory in the south of Lafrance, called "la Joyeuse Marque" for his warm and soothing weather and beautiful coastlines. A patron of arts and culture, Boemond de Vaillancourt also ensured protection within his territories against the Moor Piracy and granted freedom of thoughts in his domain, so that he stood neutral in the religious quarrels oppressing Lafrance. He also fought the multiple attempts of expansion of the great Palatinal families of Garmandy and Ormonde in his domains.
