(Founded in 1316 by Walter Staplcdon, Bishop of Exeter, Lord High Treasurer of England, and Secretary of State to Edward II. At first it was known as Stapledon Hall, but in 1404 Edmund Stafford, Bishop of Exeter, added two fellowships, and its name was changed. The bordure alludes to the arms of the See of Exeter.
