Notes

Reclaimed from a fictitious anti-imperial flag of “treason” and “Rome rule” (quartered between the Green Harp Flag, the American flag, the French Tricolor, and a Jolly Roger) featured in a loyalist cartoon. This more serious design replaces these segments respectively with the quartered arms of the “Four Green Fields”, a 32-star “union” (for a 32-county republic), the Irish Tricolour (itself inspired by the French Republic’s design) charged with an overturned British crown, and a variation on the “pirate” flag referencing the 1798 rebellion (a poleaxe marked “98” being the “flagpole” of the original satirical design).
